Our picks of what to watch during the week ahead.

BABIES

Monday, BBC One

At the heart of the series are Lisa (Cullen) and Stephen (Essiedu), a couple in their 30s whose dream of becoming parents is tested as they endure multiple miscarriages. While confronting unimaginable grief, their bond shines through with humour, warmth, and unwavering commitment. The newly released trailer offers a first glimpse of their intimate, raw and quietly powerful story.

Charlotte Riley (The Peripheral, Press) and Jack Bannon (Pennyworth, Pulse) also star as Amanda and Dave - a new couple navigating their own challenges and testing their compatibility. Their complex relationship, set against Lisa and Stephen’s ongoing pregnancy journey, begins to expose cracks in Stephen and Dave’s long-standing friendship.

 THE TEACHER

Monday, 5

Victoria Hamilton stars as Helen Simpson, a teacher with 30 years’ experience who dismisses the woke ideologies of the younger generation. Influential female student Cressida Bancroft dislikes Helen for accusing her of being a woke warrior to gain popularity.

After this clash of ideals, Cressida sets out to turning the world against Helen, before focussing her attention on Helen’s family, including her son Sam. As Helen delves deeper into Cressida’s past, she uncovers a world of sadness and neglect. But has she learnt enough about Cressida to stop her final act of revenge?

 RACE ACROSS THE WORLD

Thursday, BBC One

Five intrepid teams embark on the journey of a lifetime, racing more than 12,000km across Europe and Asia, the largest continental area on earth. The route carves through eight distinctive countries: Italy, Greece, Türkiye, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Mongolia – each bringing its own language, culture and climate. In the most extreme race to date, conditions swing from 30-degree Mediterranean heat to subarctic temperatures of –20°C. And they’ve got to do it all on a budget of less than £26 per person per day.

After a chance opportunity allows Jock to escape back from Colombia to Cork, the lads slip back into their old ways quickly, wreaking havoc everywhere but still only wanting the best for themselves and their families. Conor faces losing the love of his life; Jock tries to rebuild his relationship with Star; and crazy plans with locals to try to improve their lives leave them taking big risks, but that’s what best friends do.

DOCTOR WHO: THE DALEKS MASTER PLAN

Saturday, BBC One

Doctor Who fans are in for a treat this Easter, as two ‘missing’ episodes from the 1960’s will be made available for viewers on BBC iPlayer. The episodes, thought to be lost forever, were found by Film is Fabulous! – a charitable trust run by film collectors, cinema lovers and vintage television enthusiasts. They approached BBC Archives after finding them in a private collection. BBC Archives has worked to restore the original 16mm telerecordings – meaning viewers will be able to watch them in the best possible condition on BBC iPlayer.

 SECRET GARDEN

Sunday, BBC One

Over five episodes - set in five very different gardens across the UK - David reveals the lives of the often charming, occasionally daring, always secretive animals that inhabit the hidden world right on our doorsteps. Theirs is no cosy existence - even in these beautiful and seemingly genteel surroundings the rules of the wild still operate.

From pine martens in the Western Highlands to dormice in South Wales, swallows in the Lake District to otters in Oxfordshire and blue tits in Bristol, the series reveals not just a rich and surprising diversity of life but also how each species finds its own way to live alongside us.
