PICKS OF THE MONTH: MAY 2024

What to watch this month.


DOCTOR WHO

BBC One

The new season of Doctor Who will see Ncuti Gatwa return as the Fifteenth Doctor, alongside Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Within the upcoming series, audiences will see the Doctor and Ruby travel through time and space on adventures to unknown lands, to the Regency era in England, to outer space worlds and the sixties.



EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

BBC One

The Grand Final will be broadcast live on Saturday 11th May, where Graham Norton will be commentating over on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, Scott Mills and Rylan will be overseeing proceedings.

Multi-award winning music superstar Olly Alexander will be representing the UK with his single ‘Dizzy’, released by Polydor (part of Universal Music Group).


THE RESPONDER

BBC One

Series two joins Chris Carson six months later. Chris is attempting to rebuild his life, and his relationships, desperate to avoid the corruption that nearly sucked him under. He is trying to be a better police officer, a better man, and most importantly, a better father to his daughter Tilly. All whilst still dealing with the relentless trauma of being a night response officer.



GRANITE HARBOUR

BBC One

Centring on the story of RMP Sergeant Davis Lindo (Romario Simpson) who arrived in Aberdeen as a new recruit to Police Scotland working alongside DS Lara ‘Bart’ Bartlett (Hannah Donaldson), the first series of Granite Harbour was a BBC iPlayer favourite in 2022 with 7.6million streams.


THE OUTLAWS

BBC One

The series follows a group of strangers from different walks of life forced together to complete a community payback sentence in Bristol. As series three begins, with crime boss The Dean, (Claes Bang, Bad Sisters) behind bars awaiting trial, The Outlaws are moving on with their lives—until one of their own returns with a deadly secret, hurling them back into mortal danger.


THE GREAT BRITISH SEWING BEE

BBC One

Amateur sewers compete to impress judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young, hoping to be crowned Britain’s most sensational seamster.



THE YOUNG OFFENDERS

BBC One

Set in Cork, Ireland and created by Peter Foott, The Young Offenders tells the adventures of loveable rogues Conor (Alex Murphy) and Jock (Chris Walley) and their mother/guardian Mairead (Hilary Rose) as she tried to keep them on the straight and narrow.


INSIDE NO.9

BBC Two

From the elegance of an Edwardian country house to the grim reality of the last train home, from nosy neighbours to grave robbers, from illicit visits to the toilet to a ticking clock in a sinister escape room, this ninth collection is sure to send the series off with a bang.



I KISSED A GIRL

BBC Three

Dannii Minogue is back to play Cupid, as host of the UK’s first dating show for girls who like girls. I Kissed a Girl serves drama, smashes stereotypes, and promises more twists and turns than ever.


BEAT THE CHASERS

ITV1

The Sinnerman, The Beast, The Governess, The Menace, The Vixen and The Dark Destroyer are the greatest quiz team in the world, but can anyone Beat the Chasers for big money?


THE FORTUNE HOTEL

ITV1

Hosted by the incomparable Stephen Mangan, 10 pairs of contestants will arrive at The Fortune Hotel, where they will be given an all-important briefcase. Inside one case is the ultimate jackpot of £250,000 in cash, eight are empty, and one contains the dreaded Early Checkout Card – whichever pair is left holding that case at the end of each show will see their stay brought to a dramatic, premature end. 



BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT LIVE

ITV1

The judging panel - Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli join the incomparable hosting duo Ant and Dec in the search for Britain’s next talented superstar, who will ultimately bag a life-changing £250,000 cash prize and a spot on the bill of the Royal Variety Performance.


DOUBLE THE MONEY

Pairs of contestants come together on day one to receive a modest starting pot of seed money. As soon as they receive the cash the clock starts ticking and their mission is clear: double the money within the next exhilarating few hours or face elimination from the game.
