MONEYBAGS: DAYTIME QUIZ SET TO BE SHELVED BY CHANNEL 4

The Channel 4 daytime quiz, presented by Craig Charles, will reportedly not be returning for a third series.

The daytime gameshow format first aired in late 2021 in the 3pm weekday slot. Impressive ratings earned it a recommission, with the second series airing earlier this year in a later slot of 5pm, which saw ratings drop from the first series.

It's reported online, most notably by website Bother's Bar, that the daytime quiz won't be returning for a third run in 2023. TV Zone approached Channel 4 for comment.

Moneybags tested contestants’ ability to think quickly as they answered each question by grabbing the moneybag with the correct answer as it passed along a conveyor belt in front of them.

Those who grab the right answer earned that bag’s value, which can be anything from £1,000 to £100,000. But should the wrong bag be picked up, contestants risked losing everything. There was an enormous £1 million passing down the conveyor belt each week, and it was up to the contestants to try to grab as much as possible.

The format ran for a total of 60 episodes, including a run of celebrity specials which featured actress Catherine Tyldesley, Olympic athlete Greg Rutherford, Steps star Claire Richards, comedian and actress Nina Wadia, Celebs Go Dating’s Tom Read Wilson, impressionist actress Kate Robbins, comedian Dane Baptiste, Atomic Kitten singer Natasha Hamilton, original punk wild child Toyah Willcox and fitness legend, Mr Motivator.

In each episode, players hoped that they’ll be randomly selected to take their place in front of the money belt for one of the three head-to-head battles.

Whoever banked the most cash in each round competed in the ‘triple-header’, a tense three-way battle in which whoever grabbed – or stole – the most cash played to win it all in the Moneybags final.

Previous episodes of Moneybags are available on All4.
