Illusionist Derren Brown is to front a brand new Channel 4 social experiment series, titled Incognito.

The new show will see ten members of the public from all walks of life and different backgrounds move into a "mysterious institution" for a week. Each of the ten contestants has a job likely to get them judged by others.

The aim of the contestants is to keep their own job a secret, whilst also trying to figure out which jobs the other contestants do. They will take part in challenges overseen by Derren Brown which will gain them clues as to other people's identities.

Derren Brown said: "With previous shows I’ve normally had a clear idea of how things will conclude. This was very different. It’s a show about how we form opinions, live by our labels, judge others by them, and what happens when all that’s removed."

Channel 4's Tom Beck said: "Any Derren Brown show is an event, but Incognito is unlike anything he has done before. A social experiment disguised as a reality show. It’s ambitious, mischievous, challenging and, with its central question about how our personal prejudices affect the way we judge others, it couldn’t be more timely. The end results are fascinating, moving and wildly entertaining and I can’t wait for people to see it."

Meanwhile, Channel 4 has commissioned Handcuffed from 72 Films, a Fremantle Company – a bold new series which takes eight pairs of strangers with completely opposed opinions, beliefs, lifestyles, and bad habits, and handcuffs them together 24/7 in the ultimate test of survival.

The couples will be handcuffed together through thick and thin, as they navigate eating, dressing and even sleeping just inches apart. Shackled around the clock, the pairs will be sent on a road trip across our beautiful nation, in the hope they find common ground along the way.

If a pair can last longest chained together, they’ll be in the running for a £100,000 jackpot – but if it proves too much and they demand to be unchained, their shot at the jackpot is gone. Drawn from across the UK, the couples will represent the wide range of views and opinions found in modern Britain.

Will the chance to win a huge cash prize drive them to stay together whatever, or will their massive differences lead them to quit?

This timely experiment will be overseen by mastermind Jonathan Ross, who’ll pair up the couples and guide them on their path to reconciliation. The series marks the host’s return to Channel 4, having started his career presenting The Last Resort on the Channel in 1987.

More details on both titles will be announced in due course.
