HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU: BBC PLANNING SPORT-THEMED SPIN-OFF FOLLOWING QUESTION OF SPORT AXE

The BBC are reportedly planning a spin-off series to Have I Got News For You focusing on sport. It follows the axing of Question Of Sport last year after more than 50 years on air.

According to industry website Broadcast, the format is produced by the same production company behind Have I Got News For You, and is set to launch on BBC One later this year.

Question Of Sport was recently refreshed in 2021 by the BBC with new host Paddy McGuiness and team captains Sam Quek and Ugo Monye. The trio joined the series after the BBC controversially sacked previous host Sue Barker and team captains from the series.

A BBC spokesperson said in December: "Due to inflation and funding challenges difficult decisions have to be made, therefore Question of Sport is currently not in production at the moment."

An insider added to The Mirror: "We have to provide value for money to licence fee payers and prioritise high impact content that drives viewers to BBC iPlayer. So, for now, Question of Sport is taking a break and there are no current plans for its return."

Previous episodes of Have I News For You and Question Of Sport are available on BBC iPlayer.
