GLADIATORS SET TO BE REVIVED BY BBC ONE

BBC One is to be revived for a brand new series in 2023, Broadcast have exclusively revealed.

According to the reports, the reboot will be produced by Hungry Bear Media and rightsholder MGM Studios and is to be filmed in Sheffield Arena in 2023 before airing later in the year.

The show has been in development for a while, with some 'preliminary gladiators' selected for a run-through. Final casting has not yet taken place.

Gladiators, which originally aired on ITV between 1992 to 2000, before being reveived by Sky 1 for two series in 2009, sees the professional gladiators take on a range of physical challenges against contestants.

A source told Broadcast: "It’s exactly the kind of Saturday night family entertainment show that BBC1 needs."

The BBC declined to comment when approached by TV Zone. More details will be revealed in due course.
