Channel 4 has commissioned a single documentary from Plum Pictures showing viewers every stage of the diagnosis for ADHD – the disorder that an estimated 2.6 million people in the UK have.

The complex neurological condition has become one of the public’s most searched health-related topics, with thousands of children and adults looking into formal diagnosis but disappointingly sitting on medical waiting lists that can extend to many years.

The programme, fronted by NHS surgeon and bestselling health writer Dr Karan Rajan and former GP and nutrition expert Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, will separate fact from fiction on what the traits of ADHD might look like, and share with viewers creative advice for living with an ADHD brain.

Dr Karan will explore the complexities of this condition, the challenges faced by the thousands of children and adults across the country waiting for formal diagnosis, and talk to experts in neurodiversity along with those living their lives post-diagnosis. Meanwhile, retired GP Dr Clare turns patient as she undergoes the assessment process to establish whether undiagnosed ADHD could be the cause of some of her own behaviour challenges.

Channel 4’s Deborah Dunnett comments: “It feels like everyone is talking about ADHD, and chances are most of us will either know somebody with ADHD or be living with the condition ourselves. But with so much unverified and negative information swirling, it’s becoming harder for people to advocate for themselves and find the support they need. We hope to demystify the diagnosis process and empower viewers to know their own minds.”

Plum Pictures’ Gill Wilson adds: “We are really proud of this film and its potential to have long-lasting reassurance to viewers at home and their loved ones. We thank Karan, Clare, our experts and all our contributors for sharing their experiences and knowledge to hopefully make a difference to others.”

Do You Have ADHD? will air on Channel 4 this Summer.
