DJANGO: TRAILER AND DATE CONFIRMED FOR UPCOMING SKY ORIGINAL DRAMA
The high-octane trailer for new Sky Original series Django, a reimagining of the classic western, has been revealed today by Sky.
Directed by Francesca Comencini (Gomorrah the Series) and loosely based on the cult classic by Sergio Corbucci, Django is set in Texas in the late 1800s, following a jaded cowboy in search of the daughter he thought he'd lost.
The 10 x 60 series stars the award-winning Matthias Schoenaerts (The Danish Girl, The Mustang, Bullhead, Rust and Bone) as the iconic title character, alongside Nicholas Pinnock (For Life, Counterpart, Top Boy) as John Ellis, visionary founder of the town of New Babylon.
Lisa Vicari, (Luna, Dark) plays Django’s daughter Sarah, and Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, What Happened to Monday?) in the role of John’s powerful and ruthless enemy Elizabeth Thurman. Rounding out the cast are Elliot Edusah, Jyuddah Jaymes, Benny O. Arthur and Eric Kole as John Ellis’s children and Tom Austen as cowboy Eljiah Turner.
In following his daughter’s trail, Django comes upon New Babylon, a town at the bottom of a crater, where all outcasts are welcome and where everyone is equal and free. Here, Django discovers that his daughter is alive and set to marry John Ellis, the founder of New Babylon.
Sarah – who blames her father for the death of their family, massacred many years earlier while he was at war – wants Django to leave. But he refuses to give up and does everything in his power to get a second chance with her, becoming a valuable ally for Ellis, who must defend the town from Elizabeth Thurman's attacks.
Unbeknownst to them, Django, John, and Sarah are linked by a web of secrets and a dark past bound to resurface.
Django is an Italian-French co-production created and written by Leonardo Fasoli (Gomorrah the Series, ZeroZeroZero) and Maddalena Ravagli (Gomorrah the Series) who, together, also co-wrote the series’ treatment with Francesco Cenni and Michele Pellegrini. Completing the writing team is Max Hurwitz (ZeroZeroZero, Manhunt), who has penned two teleplays.
The ten-part series had its world premiere at last year’s Rome Film Festival to great critical acclaim and is set to debut weekly on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW from 17 February.
