From Wife Swap and Supernanny to You Are What You Eat and How to Look Good Naked, each series reflected the digital-age desire to know every last detail about the lives of others.

Dramas were also in rude health with the likes of Skins, Teachers and Sugar Rush whetting the appetite of younger viewers, who also welcomed the arrival of flagship favourites Come Dine with Me, Coach Trip and Embarrassing Bodies.
