'CHALLENGE ANNEKA' SET TO RETURN AS CHANNEL 5 ENTER TALKS FOR REBOOTED SERIES

Channel 5 are reportedly in talks with Anneka Rice to reboot her iconic adventure series Challenge Anneka, according to reports from The Sun.

Challenge Anneka was a reality adventure series, fronted by Anneka Rice, which ran on BBC One from 8th September 1989 until 15th October 1995. It was briefly rebooted by ITV in 2006 for two specials.

The series saw Anneka given a task to complete within a set time (usually days). She would have no knowledge of the tasks and would have to persuade companies and members of the public to give up their time and resources to help her accomplish the task.

A source told The Sun: "There's a real taste for bringing back classic shows right now, given viewers' thirst for nostalgia. Anneka is hopeful a deal can be struck as she believes there is still plenty of life in the format and that she can also attract a new, younger audiences...

"It was a much-loved show with good intentions, so there's no reason why it can't continue where it left off."

Challenge Anneka was almost rebooted in 2009 by the BBC, to celebrate the 20th anniversary, however the BBC ultimately concluded the series was "no longer in the public consciousness".

TV Zone approached Channel 5 for comment.
