BBC UNVEILS AUTUMN DRAMA HIGHLIGHTS

The BBC have revealed their drama slate for Autumn 2023, including new dramas The Woman In The Wall, the return of Time and the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who with David Tennant and Catherine Tate.

The Following Events Are Based On A Pack Of Lies

This is the story of two very different women (Alice Newman and Cheryl Harker) and the conman (Dr Rob Chance) they have in common; a dark, funny, and unpredictable thriller about three remarkable characters trapped in a tangled triangle of complexly layered half-truths and lies of epic proportions.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste (In Fabric, Boxing Day), Alistair Petrie (Sex Education, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, The Night Manager) and Rebekah Staton (Raised by Wolves, Home) lead the cast as Cheryl, Rob and Alice respectively.

The Woman In The Wall

Lorna Brady (Wilson) is a woman from the small, fictional town of Kilkinure, who wakes one morning to find a corpse in her house. Chillingly, Lorna has no idea who the dead woman is or if she herself might be responsible for the apparent murder…

That’s because Lorna has long suffered from extreme bouts of sleepwalking, understood to have manifested around the time she was ripped from her life at the age of 15 and incarcerated in the Kilkinure Convent. The Convent was home to one of Ireland’s infamous Magdalene Laundries, a place where women were taken when they fell afoul of the social mores of their times – from those accused of committing adultery to teenage pregnancies.

Time

Time series two is co-written by Jimmy McGovern (Broken, Cracker, The Street) and Helen Black, the writer of the now BAFTA-nominated Life and Death in the Warehouse, and is made by BBC Studios for BBC One and iPlayer. An original new story told through the lens of three very different inmates, Time is a moving and high-stakes portrayal of life inside a women’s prison.

Arriving at Carlingford Prison on the same day, Kelsey (Bella Ramsey), Orla (Jodie Whittaker) and Abi (Tamara Lawrance) are thrown together to face an unfamiliar world. But even with the ever-present threat of violence within its walls, they discover that an unexpected sense of community, and a shared understanding, still might be possible.

Boat Story

At its heart, Boat Story is an action thriller about two ordinary people whom the world has turned its back on, and whether they’re willing - or desperate enough - to do something crazy to get what they want in life. Pushed to the very edge, can they trust each other and get away with their lives and the money?

Also starring BAFTA-winner, Joanna Scanlan (After Love, Notes on A Scandal), Craig Fairbrass (One Piece, Villain and Muscle) and Phil Daniels (Quadrophenia, House of Dragons), Boat Story twists and turns with character-driven, surprising storytelling, hilarious and moving in equal turns. Off-beat humour contrasts with high-octane action sequences against the spectacular backdrop of the beautiful, windswept Yorkshire coastline.

Boiling Point

The hugely successful, multi award-winning feature film Boiling Point is coming to BBC One and iPlayer as a new drama series.

Picking up six months on from where the film left off, Boiling Point will see Sous Chef Carly (Vinette Robinson) as Head Chef at her own restaurant, with many of the film’s original cast reprising their roles alongside her – including Stephen Graham as Andy and Hannah Walters as Emily.

Doctor Who

With David Tennant back as the Doctor, the three specials will air in November 2023 before Ncuti Gatwa takes control of the TARDIS over the festive season. It also stars Catherine Tate, Yasmin Finney and Neil Patrick Harris, Jacqueline King reprising her role as Donna’s mother Sylvia, and Karl Collins as Donna’s long suffering husband, Shaun.

The show also welcomes Ruth Madeley who will be appearing as Shirley Anne Bingham.

Transmission details about all titles will be announced in due course.
