SKINNY JAB: PRIA RAI INVESTIGATES FOR NEW BBC THREE DOCUMENTARY

Radio 1’s Newsbeat presenter Pria Rai investigates the phenomenon of the ‘skinny jab’, looking at where the drugs are coming from, and the black markets hidden in plain sight.

Recent headlines report a global shortage of Ozempic and Wegovy - prescription drugs that have been shown to be effective in weight loss thanks to active ingredient Semaglutide – but social media feeds are flooded with influencers pushing the jabs that act as appetite suppressants for a fraction of the price.

Pria investigates what is really in the drugs being sold on the black market and the advice being given to those taking the drugs at home.

Pria speaks to people who have used Semaglutide, the influencers pushing it to their followers and a doctor who warns of the dangers of getting a hold of the drug without a prescription. She also goes undercover to reveal the scale of the Semaglutide trade.

The Skinny Jab Uncovered is a BBC Current Affairs commission from Birmingham, made by Full Fat TV.
