Last Autumn, production company Banijay announced a new deal with creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley for the rights to bring back The Inbetweeners for new audience, across a range of platforms which could include TV, film or stage.

It's now reported that the comeback will be in the form of a film on Netflix. A source told The Sun: "Inbetweeners fans will be thrilled and relieved because when talk of a reboot emerged last year, there were fears it might not turn out to be a telly project. But this deal will mean the comedy will be back on our television screens for the first time in 16 years, even though it won’t in its original home on Channel 4."
The Inbetweeners was a smash hit comedy broadcast on Channel 4's youth-skewing channel E4 from 2008 to 2010, followed by two movies released in 2011 and 2014, then a reunion special in 2019 to mark ten years since the show's debut.
It followed the misadventures of teenagers Will MacKenzie, Simon Cooper, Neil Sutherland and Jay Cartwright at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive as they navigated school life, friendship, male bonding, lad culture and failed sexual encounters.
Creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley said: "It’s incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends)."
Jonathan Blyth, managing director of Fudge Park productions said: "We are thrilled to announce this exciting partnership with Banijay who share our vision and ambition for one of the most iconic comedies in British history. This is a wonderful moment for fans, there are exciting conversations afoot and more news to follow."
Patrick Holland, CEO of Banijay UK commented: "I have worked with Damon and Iain on a number of Fudge Park projects over the years and was delighted to pick up the conversation about the future of ‘The Inbetweeners’ with them. They have an infectious creative vision for the brand which will resonate with audience old and new so I can’t wait to get going."
More details will be announced in due course.
