Following the success of the first series, Channel 5 has announced today that The Good Ship Murder will return for two more series and a Christmas special. The new series, produced by Clapperboard, in association with FIFTH SEASON promise more sun, sea, and sinister plots, continuing to entertain viewers with its unique blend of murder mystery and musical charm.

The dynamic pairing of cabaret singer turned detective Jack Grayling, played by Shayne Ward (Coronation Street, Young Gun, Band of Gold) and the fiercely ambitious First Officer Kate Woods, played by Catherine Tyldesley (Scarborough, 15 Days, Viewpoint) will make a return.

As well as much loved Cruise Director Beverley Carnell, played by Claire Sweeney. Ross Adams (Hollyoaks) will also join the cast as new character Colin Smallwood, and the series will also see a host of guest stars joining the voyage.

The success of the first series season– which averaged an audience of 2.1 million for Channel 5 – has paved the way for the continuation of Jack and Kate's adventures, as they solve murder mysteries against the backdrop of the sparkling Mediterranean. With the ship setting sail for new horizons, audiences can expect an array of stunning coastal destinations and a fresh wave of compelling mysteries to unravel.

Paul Testar, Commissioning Editor, Drama, at Channel 5, commented on the series' return: "Greg and I are excited for these new tales on The Good Ship Murder. The blend of music, mystery, and beautiful locations was a winning formula that our viewers loved in series one, and we’re excited to be working with Clapperboard again to bring this series back”.

Mike Benson, Managing Director of Clapperboard, shared his enthusiasm: “Series one was something of a journey - or mid-price cruise - into the unknown… not least trying to film a drama on a cruise ship with 6000 holidaymakers heading to 8 different countries! However, we were delighted with how the concept found an audience and are thrilled to be making two more series packed with sun, showtunes and subterfuge.”

Prentiss Fraser, President of TV Distribution at FIFTH SEASON, added: “The Good Ship Murder really delivers on exactly what buyers around the world are looking for right now – it’s long-running, set in beautiful and sun-filled locations, and offers a light-hearted, cosy procedural with a twist...

"We knew the show was destined to sail straight into the hearts of audiences and become a fan-favourite, returnable series – and we’re now looking forward to bringing fresh mysteries to our existing partners all around the world, plus more to come in the territories where we’re continuing to field offers.”

The two new 8 x 60’ murder mystery series’ will be produced by Clapperboard, in association with FIFTH SEASON.
