Will & Ralf Should Know Better | Preview (U&Dave)
Will Mellor and Ralf Little pull back the curtain on a bickering bromance that stretches over 20 years, finding out how they can do life better as two middle aged men in their forties.
Travelling the length and breadth of the UK, behind the wheel of an electric car, Will and Ralf laugh, cry and learn more about themselves and each other in a few weeks than they ever have in two decades of friendship. Along the way they meet a series of extraordinary characters, explore unexpected worlds and push themselves well out of their comfort zones.
As Will says, ‘everyday’s a school day’ and whether it’s trying to impress the World’s Strongest Woman with their ‘strength’, chatting up nettles (yes, nettles) in an eco-village, living like Stone Age cavemen, or stripping naked in front of one thousand women, Will and Ralf challenge themselves and each other to learn new things and to push themselves to do and be better.
In the first episode, Will and Ralf are putting their physical and mental strength to the test, as they explore what it really means to be ‘strong’ in the modern world. Their first stop is Wrexham, to meet Rebecca Roberts, winner of two World’s Strongest Woman titles. Despite being the smallest people in the room, Will and Ralf are keen to test themselves.
Under Rebecca’s watchful eye, they attempt classic Strongman events with mixed results and some bizarre physical responses. But when it comes to pulling a truck, can they draw inspiration from Rebecca’s impressive mental strength, and achieve the seemingly impossible? Thinking about inner strength sends them back to their old haunt of Runcorn, where Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps was set.
Since Will and Ralf last visited, the Old Archer, the pub featured in the series, has undergone its own spiritual transformation. Now a Buddhist Temple, it just might be the perfect place to learn some techniques to unlock inner peace.
But for Will and Ralf, this isn’t as easy as it first seems and they must overcome their own bodily challenges and embarrassed giggles, before being put through their paces in the most eye-watering way, by a Thai masseur nicknamed ‘Ninja Nun’.
Finally, Will and Ralf test out the skills they’ve learnt in the most explosive way possible by taking part in a Hostile Environment Training drill. Usually the preserve of people heading off to warzones, can Will and Ralf stay cool, calm and collected – even zen – when confronted with a bunch of terrifying strangers carrying guns, at an unexpected vehicle checkpoint?
Will & Ralf Should Know Better launches Monday 7th October at 10pm on U&Dave.
