Rescue 999: Seconds To Save A Life | Preview (Channel 5)
New series with a unique viewpoint of dramatic real-life rescues. Working with UK rescue teams covering sea, mountain, land and air, body-cam material of real-life incidents take the viewer to the heart of the action.
The heroic Rescuers and distressed casualties re-tell the story from both sides of the drama as we follow an unfolding narrative of the rescue from start to finish.
Each episode features emotionally charged, real-life emergencies from all over the UK, unpicking the series of events leading to rescuing people in the most perilous of situations. The series celebrates brilliant men and women putting their lives on the line for strangers in need.
In the first of this brand-new series, the Killin Mountain Rescue volunteers in the Scottish Highlands search for a female hiker stranded 3000 feet up in the snowy peaks of Ben Oss, but with fog setting in the race is on to find her before the weather gets worse, the temperature drops, and they lose daylight.
On the South coast in the Solent GAFIRS lifeboat is launched to rescue a marooned yacht being dragged perilously towards wooden piles on the shoreline. Even with sonar on board the lifeboat crew run the risk of becoming stranded on the sandbanks in difficult to navigate shallow water.
The Magpas Air Ambulance team, based in Cambridgeshire, are called out to an emergency case after a woman is found unconscious in her home. She needs urgent critical care to get her to hospital as quickly as possible and it’s down to the expertise of the crew to stabilise her to make the journey.
And, an emergency in the Peak District for the Edale Mountain Rescue team as they take on the challenge to stretcher out a climber who has fallen 5 metres down a rock face with potentially life-threatening injuries. They battle to get him back up a dangerously rocky cliff face, without causing further injury, to get the hospital care he needs.
Rescue 999: Seconds To Save A Life begins Friday 16th August at 8pm on Channel 5.
