Phoenix Rise | Preview (BBC iPlayer)

New to Player, Phoenix Rise is a coming-of-age drama that follows the stories of six students who form an unbreakable bond as they navigate the trials and tribulations of school life in the Midlands.

Produced by BBC Studios Kids & Family and distributed by Sinking Ship Entertainment, the cast are played by up-and-coming actors largely from across the West Midlands.

The misfit heroes are a group of teens taking their first tentative steps back into mainstream education after being excluded. At first it seems like they have nothing in common, but they soon realise they all share one unique trait: an indomitable will to succeed.

Ostracised by other pupils because of their backgrounds and reputation, these outsiders quickly find out that the only way they’ll survive school is by sticking together and forming a club of their own. Unlikely friendships bond them and fuel their determination not to be side-lined.

The teens meet regularly in a disused boiler room, an abandoned space which becomes a sanctuary. For them, school becomes a hopeful place and a chance to finally right the wrongs of the past as they strive to find their place in the world.

Phoenix Rise is their opportunity to rise from the ashes and prove that sometimes, being an outsider means belonging to the best club of all.

Set and filmed in Coventry, Phoenix Rise is a ten-part series created, written and executive-produced by Perrie Balthazar (Bad Sisters, Coronation Street, Ackley Bridge) and Matt Evans (EastEnders, Riviera, A Discovery of Witches).

Lauren Corah, Alex Draper, Jayden Hanley, Krish Bassi, Tara Webb and Imogen Baker star in this brand new drama for the BBC.

Phoenix Rise is available on BBC iPlayer from Tuesday 21 March and is on at 7pm, Friday 24 March on BBC Three
