After a life-changing summer at Dogs Trust Basildon in 2024, Pete Wicks is back with the charity for a brand-new second series. This time he’s spending months alongside the teams at rehoming centres across the UK, doing whatever he can to help more dogs find their forever homes.

The first series won Best Popular Factual Programme at this year's Broadcast Digital Awards. Pete experiences the highs and lows of life at Dogs Trust, from helping traumatised strays learn to trust again, to caring for endless litters of puppies in need and supporting the recovery of sick and injured dogs. And at the heart of it are the uplifting moments when these dogs finally find the loving homes they so deserve.

In the first episode, Pete Wicks returns to Dogs Trust, facing a suitcase of abandoned pups on day one and falling hard for Theo, a gentle Italian Mastiff with a serious heart condition.

A suitcase containing four frightened pups is left at reception, so the team spring into action. Pete also visits the Kenilworth centre near Birmingham where he falls head over heels in love with Theo, a gentle Italian Mastiff. But when he learns that Theo is battling a serious heart defect, it becomes a race against time to find him the loving home he so desperately deserves.

Up in Leeds, Pete encounters Ricky, a lively wire-haired pointer who’s already been returned once because of his complete lack of recall. Pete and the behaviour team work to give him the training, and the second chance, he needs.

Eye-opening, emotional, and ultimately uplifting, this new series shines a light on the tireless work of Dogs Trust staff and the incredible journeys of the dogs they care for.

Pete Wicks said: “I am delighted to return to Dogs Trust for series two, three and a Christmas special of For Dogs’ Sake. Filming the first series and following the journeys of these dogs was such a personal and professional career highlight. To know the show received such a positive public reaction, and had a genuine impact on the increasing numbers of dogs being rescued is what really matters...

"The true heroes of this show are the Dogs Trust staff and volunteers – the work they do is incredible and it’s been an honour to highlight their dedication and commitment. I’m excited to be working with U&W and BBC Studios Entertainment to make it all happen again.”

Pete Wicks: For Dogs' Sake returns Monday 13th September at 9pm on U&W.
