In this two-part series, Steve Backshall is in search of the only wild animal that fills him with fear - the hippo. Known for their lethal aggression, Steve heads to South Africa’s Ndumo game reserve to find out just what fuels this behaviour and to uncover some of their surprising traits.
He walks their pathways, dives into their waterways and uses the latest high-tech to let us glimpse into their secret world. In one unusual town, he has an encounter that’s not for the faint hearted as he comes face to face with these mega herbivores as they wander the streets and gardens.
