Nick Knowles, designer Gabrielle Blackman and the DIY SOS team return for a heartwarming Children in Need Special, taking on one of their most ambitious builds to date.

They are in Cheshire to support The Joshua Tree – a children’s cancer support charity founded by Lynda and Dai Hill after their son Joshua was diagnosed with leukaemia at just five years old. Now a healthy 26-year-old, Joshua gives back by helping with fitness sessions, but hundreds of other families still urgently need the charity’s vital, personalised support.
Currently supporting nearly 400 families, The Joshua Tree is in desperate need of expansion. The DIY SOS team, with the extraordinary help of local tradespeople, suppliers and volunteers, step in to nearly double the size of the charity’s facilities. The ambitious build includes a gym, new therapy and counselling rooms, safe play areas, and much-needed accommodation for families travelling long distances for treatment.
This is an emotional and inspiring episode that showcases the power of community, compassion and the life-changing impact that Children in Need has on young lives across the UK.
DIY SOS For Children In Need airs Thursday 13th December at 9pm on BBC One.
