It has been announced that the mystery crime series based on the beloved best-selling novels by Elizabeth George will return for a second series on Britbox and BBC One in the UK.

Leo Suter (Vikings: Valhalla) and Sofia Barclay (Ted Lasso) reprise their roles as Lynley and Havers, the unconventional duo at the heart of the series. Daniel Mays reprises his role of Chief Inspector Brian Niles whilst Michel Workeye returns as DS Tony Bekele.

Joining the series for its second series are Deirdre Mullins (Bad Sisters) as Chief Superintendent Isabelle Ardery, Sara Stewart (Transformers) as Countess of Asherton and Lynley’s mother and Assad Zaman (Interview with the Vampire) as Zain Chaudhry, Havers’ new neighbor.

Tommy Lynley is a brilliant police detective but an outsider in the force – simply by virtue of his aristocratic upbringing. He is paired with Barbara Havers, a sergeant with a maverick attitude and a working-class background.

In the second series, the duo investigate a range of cases from a suspicious death at an elite horse racing estate, to violent protests at a Cambridge university, to a mysterious suicide on an Essex military base.

As the cases unfold, Lynley confronts lingering ties to his estranged aristocratic family and the allure of a formidable new Chief Superintendent in the Three Counties precinct. Meanwhile, Havers pursues a newfound independence and ambition that test her professional and personal boundaries like never before.

Elizabeth George, author of the Inspector Lynley novels, also serves as executive producer. Her books have been translated into over 30 languages and were previously adapted into The Inspector Lynley Mysteries which ran on BBC One for six series from 2001 to 2007.

Lynley is available now on BBC One and iPlayer.
