Jamie Oliver is to return to Channel 4 with new eight-episode series titled Jamie's 20 Minute Meals. The new series is a one-shot cooking show with each episode featuring two meals that are cooked up in less than 20 minutes.

With each meal filmed in one continuous take, Oliver will prove that dinner can be made in the 20 minute timeframe, and due to the nature of production will mean the chef will be forced to embrace all the slip ups that come along with home cookery.

Tim Hancock, commissioning editor at Channel 4, said: "It’s very rare in cookery TV that you get a chance to rip up the rulebook and try something totally different – and Channel 4 feels like the perfect place for this kind of fresh thinking. Jamie and his team have done a fantastic job reimagining the recipe series, and I can’t wait for viewers to dive into the real time world of 20 Minute Meals."

Producer Sarah Millard added: "With convenience culture everywhere, Jamie wanted to prove that home cooking can be fast, fun and far from a chore. And to prove that it really can be done in the time, we wanted to break free from the traditional edited TV format…It’s an unfiltered, high-energy series designed to get taste buds going and give audiences the confidence to take control of their time and kitchen again."

Transmission details will be announced in due course.
