Netflix have released first look images and confirmed the launch date for new political thriller Hostage (previously announced as The Choice), starring Suranne Jones and Julie Delpy.

Abigail Dalton, played by Suranne Jones, the recently elected British Prime Minister fighting for office thanks to a healthcare crisis. Vivienne Toussaint, played by Julie Delpy, is the first female French President campaigning for re-election no matter what - including tackling France’s borders.

A summit between the two women could be the answer to their prayers, if they can agree. But when Dalton’s husband is kidnapped and Toussaint is blackmailed, they both face unimaginable choices. Forced into a fierce rivalry where their political futures, and lives, might hang in the balance, can they work together to uncover the plot that threatens them both?

Further casting includes Cory Mylchreest, Lucian Msamati, Ashley Thomas, James Cosmo, Martin McCann and Jehnny Beth.

Suranne Jones said: "I’m thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I’m really proud of. It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. We’d talked about projects previously, but for me, it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect - me and Matt together, backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it."

Hostage lands 21st August on Netflix.
