The BBC’s hit entertainment series Gladiators continues this Saturday and brings with it the return of the iconic event, Suspension Bridge.

A true test of strength, balance and bravery, the event will be played in its original format. The Contender begins on a podium at one end of the bridge, while the Gladiator waits in the middle, ready to defend their ground.
Armed with hammerheads, the two go head-to-head as the Contender attempts to cross the bridge and reach the podium on the opposite side. Points are awarded as follows; 10 points if the Contender successfully makes it across the bridge to the far podium, 5 points if the Contender remains standing on the bridge without being knocked off and 0 points if the Contender is knocked from the bridge by the Gladiator.

Suspension Bridge was a standout event from the original series and its return promises dramatic, physical battles that capture the spirit of classic Gladiators action.
Bradley and Barney Walsh are back with Saturday Night superheroes Apollo, Athena, Bionic, Comet, Cyclone, Diamond, Dynamite, Electro, Fire, Fury, Giant, Hammer, Legend, Nitro, Phantom, Sabre, Steel, and Viper return to showcase their power, agility and bold banter against the courageous Contenders.
“Suspension Bridge is a true Gladiators classic, and we’re buzzing to see it making its return," say Bradley and Barney. "It’s one of those events that really takes a toll on the Contenders. Every step demands strength, balance and serious determination. You can feel the tension building as soon as it begins. Things are about to get brutal but it’s also quite funny in places, there’s something about trying to keep your composure face to face with a Gladiator while wobbling high above the arena that makes for brilliant telly!'’

This Saturday, Gladiators will air at 7.15pm. For eager fans of the series who would like to watch the show earlier in the day, the episode will be available on BBC iPlayer from 4pm.
