After months of rumours and speculation, it has been revealed that Doctor Who will continue on BBC One for further series beyond this year, but fans may have to wait until 2027.

The Mirror reports that the series will return to BBC One for future series, with Russell T Davies already working on scripts for an additional two series, irrespective of whether Disney decide to continue in their partnership with the BBC beyond this series.
A source said to The Mirror: "Whether or not Disney stays, the expectation is that the show will continue. Yes, there will be a gap while the scripts are finalised, the episodes are filmed and the editing process takes place. But we’ll be back..."
A source added to the newspaper: "When Doctor Who began its partnership with Disney+, there was additional funding put in place. Doctor Who is an expensive show to make, with its effects budget taking up a significant part of the overall spend, so if Disney were to withdraw its funding, then there wouldn't be as significant an impact on production as some fans may think. The TARDIS set is still standing in Cardiff, all ready to go on new adventures."

In the new series, audiences join The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) on an epic quest to get Belinda back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-travelling TARDIS team must face great dangers, ferocious enemies and wilder terrors than ever before.
Like many Doctors who have come before him, one is not enough for the Fifteenth Doctor and in season two, he will have two companions by his side as Varada Sethu steps aboard the TARDIS and straps in for another journey through time and space alongside Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday.
There are no shortage of guest stars adventuring with the Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa), Belinda (Varada Sethu) and Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson). Rylan plays himself, the co-host of the Interstellar Song Contest and Alan Cumming voices the villainous cartoon character, Mr Ring-a-Ding..
Anita Dobson, Bonnie Langford, Jemma Redgrave, Caoilfhionn Dunne, Christopher Chung, Evelyn Miller, Ariyon Bakare, Julie Dray and Jonah Hauer-King all feature in the trailer for season 2, with Rose Ayling-Ellis MBE also joining the ranks for a thrilling and frightening adventure.
Doctor Who continues Saturdays at 8am on BBC iPlayer.
