CHEERS: UK VERSION OF CLASSIC COMEDY REPORTEDLY IN DEVELOPMENT
A UK remake of classic American comedy Cheers is reportedly in development, Deadline have revealed.
The original series, which ran for 275 episodes and aired on NBC, followed the regulars of Boston bar 'Cheers' as they shared their lives, stories and experiences with each other while drinking or working at the bar.
Deadline reports that the UK remake is being developed by Big Talk Studios, whose credits include BBC's The Outlaws starring Stephen Merchant and Ludwig, which recently launched on BBC One starring David Mitchell.
Chief Executive of Big Talk, Kenton Allen, said (via Deadline): "I might be insane. The British pub is an endangered species, so there’s an answer for the ‘Why now?’ about it. The attitudes of Cheers in the 80s are very different to the attitudes of today, so there’s a massive amount of work to be done around taking inspiration from the original characters but creating something fresh."
More details will be revealed in due course.
