CHANNEL 4 WITHDRAWS COMMISSION FOR SECOND SERIES OF THE YEAR OF THE RABBIT

Due to cuts in budgets being made to the impact of Coronavirus, Channel 4 have withdrawn its commission for a second series of The Year Of The Rabbit.

The comedy series focused on tough booze-hound detective Rabbit (Matt Berry), his hapless partner Strauss (Freddie Fox) and the country’s first female police officer Mabel (Susan Wokoma) as they fight crime in London’s east end.

A Channel 4 spokesperson confirmed: "We’re hugely proud of this hilarious and fearless comedy series, but as result of the impact of Covid on our schedules we have made the difficult decision not to enter into a second series with a heavy heart."

OMG chief executive Layla Smith told Deadline: "Year Of The Rabbit is a victim of the devastating effects of Covid. IFC are very committed to the show, but we will need to find another partner — and we’re working on that."
