Dominic Cooper and Romola Garai, who recently won an Olivier Award for her performance in The Years, will lead the cast in new captivating scandalous romance drama, Adultery, written and created by BAFTA-award winning writer Danny Brocklehurst (Fool Me Once, Brassic). Produced by Poison Pen Studios (part of ITV Studios) for ITV and STV, the six-part series has started filming in and around Manchester this week.

Dominic Cooper (Preacher, The Devil's Double) and Romola Garai (One Life, Vigil) play the lead protagonists Tom Kirkman and Beth Brookes, who share an immediate, intense connection. As they struggle with their undeniable desires, the pair must grapple with their guilt and the potential consequences for their families.
Also starring in the series are Shelley Conn (Gen V, Bridgerton) as Tom’s wife Hannah, and Matthew McNulty (Domina, Deadwater Fell) as Beth’s husband Neil. And introducing rising star Johnny Sanpher and Leila Khan (Heartstopper, Crookhaven) who will play teenage lovers, Jess Kirkman and Ollie Brookes.
Andrew Knott (Gavin & Stacey, Protection) will also be joining the cast as Dave, the ex-husband of Beth’s recently deceased best friend, alongside James Murray (The Crown, Masters of the Air) and Charley Webb (The Long Shadow, Better) as Paul and Leah Kirkman, Tom’s brother and sister-in-law.
The provocative love story raises questions about class, grief and the effects of social media, as it takes the viewer on a rollercoaster story of passion, parenthood and peril, as Tom Kirkman and Beth Brookes embark upon a passionate and intense love affair that threatens to uproot their whole lives. Adultery is naturally authentic and bristling with passion as it focuses upon two ordinary families and messy complications.
Adultery introduces us to Tom’s 15-year-old daughter Jess who has found love with schoolmate Ollie, and they can’t take their hands off one another, as love’s young dream becomes all consuming. When Tom meets Ollie’s Mum Beth in the most unexpected of circumstances, the two families’ lives are potentially turned upside down forever. Will Tom and Beth be able to control their desires unlike their lovestruck teenagers?
Commented Danny Brocklehurst: “'It's a wonderful privilege to assemble such an amazing cast for Adultery. The characters in our show have complex emotional lives and we needed the very best acting talent to bring them to the screen. I couldn't be more thrilled.”
Commented Ben Stephenson: “‘I am thrilled that we have assembled such a high calibre cast for Danny’s wonderful scripts. Dominic and Romola are two remarkable actors at the peak of their careers and it’s hugely exciting to see what they bring to this juicy gripping and complex show alongside their amazing co leads Matthew and Shelley.”
Adultery (6x60) is created and written by Danny Brocklehurst. Will Sinclair will direct episodes 1-3, and Daniel O’Hara will direct episodes 4-6 with Sarah Lewis as series producer. Ben Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli and Luke Woellhaf executive produce for Poison Pen Studios, alongside series creator and writer Danny Brocklehurst and Polly Hill for ITV.
